The foundry is situated in the province of Novara, Italy, approximately 50 km North-West of Milan. Production began in 1968 as "Colombo Fonderie" and became a part of the US steel company, Armco Inc., in 1984. The name was changed to GST Europa SpA in 1994, when the Grinding Systems Division of Armco was sold to GS Technologies Corp. Since June 2000 GST Europa SpA is part of Christian Pfeiffer Maschinenfabrik GmbH - Beckum (Germany).
CPM foundry is the largest producer of high chromium grinding media in Italy, with over 80% of its production exported to cement plants all around the world. Average production is 15,000 tons per year of grinding balls and cylpebs containing from 11 to 31% chromium, depending on the specific application. Ball diameters produced range from 15 mm to 120 mm, and cylpebs from 12x12 mm to 35x35 mm. The foundry employs a total of 35 people, including administration and sales personnel.
The production process, alloy compositions and heat treatment procedures are in a constant technological evolution, in order to provide media types specifically suited to the various grinding applications and customer requirements.
